Range Rover Land Rover Hybrids

Land Rover Body - Shortened Range Rover Chassis

I could take the Range Rover body off and replace it with a Landrover body. This is how you build a Hybrid. A popular option is to cut down the Range Rover chassis from 100 inches to about 88 inches so that it can have a nearly standard Land Rover body added. I could use either a standard 88” (short wheel base) Series II or III Land Rover or an ex-military Lightweight.

Shortened Land Rover Body - Range Rover Chassis

I could take the Range Rover body off and replace it with a Landrover body. This is how you build a Hybrid. However, I don’t think I have the necessary skills and experience to cut a section from the Range Rover’s chassis and weld it back together again accurately and safely. Therefore, a better option may be to take a longer body from a long wheel base Land Rover or Defender 110 and cut a section out to make it shorter.

Land Rover Like Body 1

I could take the Range Rover body off and replace it with a space frame (which acts as a big roll cage) and add simple panels or sheet metal to form a Landrover inspired body. Since the new body could have a wheelbase of 100 inches, the chassis does not need to be shortened, which is better for a first project. This is the principle behind a Tomcat 100".

Here are some older (lower quality) photos of Range Rover Land Rover hybrids with Land Rover like bodies. The pictures may not be as good, but the ideas are still worth looking at. As coil sprung Landrover Defenders become cheaper second hand, the art of building hybrids is declining, making these ‘old photos’ more important.
